Book Review: Tanya Huff’s Valor’s Choice

So as many people know this year I wrote a novel with the working title: Other Systems. I have a group of friends and family who read (or are reading) the book and I submitted it to a few publishers and agents.

One of my faithful beta readers suggested I read Tanya Huff, who does fantastic dialogue. She also mentioned that Ms. Huff’s different species of the Confederation all seemed different and easy to keep track of. This beta reader was correct: the dialogue in the book is snappy and helps further the story.

The main character is instantly likable. Torin is a hard working staff sergeant in the Marines. I liked the integration of implants and technology into the story without feeling overwhelming.

Once I got into the story, I enjoyed it. I did not recognize the battle exactly, but I could see that Ms. Huff pulled a battle from the History Well. Things happened that I remembered, but I couldn’t quite place it. (I won’t spoil it for others to guess.)

Two thumbs and a big toe up.
