It’s true, I have another addiction. Not only am I addicted to the semi-colon; and will use it anytime I can. I am also addicted to the word ‘as.’ Like my last addiction, this was discovered by an editor. (I had one editor for the first round; this is a different editor for round two.)
I’ve always had a problem with run-on sentences. It is the way I think. Even when I speak unrelated clauses bind together. Knowing this, when I do a copy edit prior to sending off my manuscripts, I look for certain things.
The correct use of colons and semi-colons.
And I often try to separate the clauses when there is an ‘and’ or ‘but’ connecting two unrelated things, but I didn’t look out for ‘as.’
This time there is nothing wrong this time with my use of the word ‘as’, I just keep using the same sentence structure over and over again. As my poor editor discovered, there was more than one sentence with two ‘as’s in it.
