Will I sleep ever again?

I just got up out of bed– it’s 1:11 am. Thankfully, my husband has to work late tonight so I am not bothering him at all. He has to be up until 2:30 am.

I closed my eyes and suddenly had a terrible thought: what if I accidently put a distance measurement in the US standard instead of metric in my novel Other Systems? (For example: miles instead of kilometers)

It’s science fiction novel set 1000 years in the future. I wanted it primarily in metric.

So I got out of bed simply to do a global check of the words: feet, meters, meter, etc. I mean the manuscript is with the editor at 48Fourteen, so there is nothing I can do about it anyway. (Yes, I did find instances of the word feet: fortunately it was in regards to the wedge shaped body parts sticking out at the bottom end of the legs.)

Then I started thinking about other things I would change… should I have used more adjectives in describing things? Less? I don’t know anymore.

Do all novelists feel this way two weeks from release? Did you sweat thinking over every line? Did your tummy hurt? Did you get up in the middle of the night and watch Dave Chappelle?
