The back of the book summary is too long so I had to shorten it.

Back Text:

Without an influx of DNA, the utopian colony on Kipos has generations before it reaches failure. Earth is over ninety light-years away. Time is short.

The Earthlings see opportunity in Kipos’s need, but the Kiposi are shocked to see the state of the Homeworld. After testing, Abby and her siblings Jin and Orchid leave the safety of their family with the expectation of good jobs and opportunity for higher education. While the Earthlings travel in stasis, the Kiposi, terrified that they will taint their paradise, pass a series of laws to force them to assimilate. When Abby awakes on Kipos, Jin cannot be found. Orchid is ripped from her arms as Abby is sold. To survive, Abby learns Kiposi culture and language using the only thing that is truly hers on this new world: her analytical mind.
